Careless Words

“Faults are always thick where love is thin.” Charles Spurgeon

"But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give an account of it in the day of judgement." Matt 12:36

I have had a friend's girls over for a couple of days. She is a very good friend and her girls are similar ages to my girls. It has been interesting to see what happens when 9 girls live in a small space for 4 or 5 days. It is nothing unusual, just interesting to note. My very sweet little girls can say the ugliest things with these cute little smiles. I don't think they even realize how they are flaying their friends with their words. It has been just little petty comments, mostly early in the morning, and in the afternoon when people are tired and could use some food.

It has made me more aware of what I say. Sometimes the careless little comments can cut deeply without being intended that way at all. Just because we are a little piqued and don't keep our mouths shut. I have found myself telling the girls to "build each other up with their words" a lot this week. I have to lead them in this. It has been a good reminder not to let them slide in how they watch their careless words.
