Children's Heaven

This morning my friend Lisa opened her home to several ladies and their lovely children. We were there to meet her friend Hanna. Lisa met her while she was in Ethiopia picking up her daughter. Hanna started an organization called Children's Heaven. She has opened her home to orphaned girls from ages 10-16. She has three that live in her home, and she provides food, health care, education opportunities, and love to 62 other girls. These girls are extremely vulnerable. They are either orphaned with no protection, or they are taking care of ailing parents while trying to provide for the rest of their family.

Hanna's mission is to provide these girls with the resources they need to finish their educations, and Lord willing to be able to go to University. In Ethiopia the schools are free, but there is an annual fee as well as required uniforms. Hanna tries to meet their material needs so that they can go to school. When she speaks of her girls you can sense the deep love she has for them, and for their mothers. She desires that her girls live with and take care of their mothers as long as they can. You can see the hope that she has for these young ladies. She doesn't see the obstacles as insurmountable, and her vision is to help more and more.

I only spent a short time with Hanna, but her hope was infectious. She knows how little they have, but she believes that these girls will be doctors, pilots, teachers, and leaders. Seeing her eyes light up when she talks about her girls gives me hope. I really want to join hands with her in this project.

I find it interesting that so many people wonder how they can make a difference. I am beginning to believe that you have to be pretty blind not to see ways you can help. There are so many individuals out there meeting the needs that God brings to them. When God brings those people into your path, take their hand and help bear their burden. Figure out what God has gifted you with, and find out who needs that gift. God answers prayer, just ask.

Hanna's girls need clothes. From cruising garage sales I know that this is an easy request. I am going to Ethiopia this spring, if you have clothes that would fit girls between the ages of 10-16 send them my way. Ethiopian girls tend to be shorter than American girls so keep that in mind. She also needs money, don't we all? Food prices are going up in Ethiopia and these girls only get one good meal a day. Maybe set aside your change jar to donate to Children's Heaven. They also partner with schools, would your school partner with these girls? If you are wondering how you can help change the world, maybe you could start by checking out Children's Heaven.
