Today was N's first court date. For some reason all of the cases today failed. Our next court date is Feb. 27. I had been preparing myself for this, but it is still difficult. My kids are very disappointed, and are having a hard time understanding why.
Ethiopia seems to be making adjustments in their international adoption system. I don't know all of the details, but I think it is probably a good thing. I believe that international adoption can be a blessing. I believe that there are children that have needs that are best met in other countries. I can also understand why Ethiopians would be concerned about the number of healthy children that are leaving the country. Children are the future of any people. They are the hope of the next generation. It is difficult for Americans to understand why countries that have greater difficulties than we do wouldn't want their children to come here. America has been greatly blessed, but we certainly have our own issues. These children are not owed to us, we may be able to provide some things that Ethiopia cannot, but we also lack things that Ethiopia has. We do not have their history, their culture, their tenacity.
I am very hopeful that N will be home by the time school gets out, but if his waiting improves life for other children, or his home country then I am content to wait. God has taken care of him this long, and He alone can move mountains. Today I am thankful that God is sovereign, and He knows how disappointed we are. His timing is perfect.

Sorry for your delay. Waiting is so hard. We have two kids in Haiti that we're adopting and the waiting is so hard.
I love your perspective on countries that are loosing kids to America through adoption. I have the same thoughts and it is hard to explain. You did a great job.

So sorry for the delay in N coming home. I know it is hard. Our court date is Jan 21 and I am bracing myself that with two unrelated kids we will not pass the first time. I hope you feel asurance that N is happy and doing well at KM. He seems like a wonderful little boy and looks super healthy!
