The End of the Spear

I watched The End of the Spear last night with a couple of my older girls. BK thought it was a sad movie. We had a good discussion about what was sad, and what was hope. I thought it was wonderful.

I think that the thing we miss in our culture today is the power of sacrifice. We are so accustomed to comfort and convenience that any thought of willingly laying down our lives seems absurd. I was so impressed by how well lived their lives were, and what a huge impact it made on the culture. We have been studying Isaiah, and over and over God promises to bring in peace to His rebellious people. He promises to give peace to those who will rest in him. These five men in Ecuador gave their lives so that this tribe, and all of the people living around them could have peace. What a wonderful story of the gospel conquering darkness.

The line that really stuck with me was when Steve Saint asked his Dad if they would shoot the natives. His Dad told him no. When Steve asked him why, he told him that he was ready for Heaven, but the natives weren't. Do I have that kind of faith? Imagine what God could do with me if I did.
