Food For Thought

There was a big hubbub about the Veggie Tales several years back in our church circles. I loved the Veggie Tales when my oldest were little, I thought they were very creative and entertaining. We haven't watched them for quite some time. My brother and his family came over this weekend and left their DVD in the player (I will bring it back, Rach). My oldest daughter was watching it, and later asked us if they were teaching the gospel or making fun of it.

That made me stop and think. She is a teenager with a pretty solid Christian worldview, and she had to ask what the point was. Our pastor had mentioned that that was his concern with them as well. I just thought they were fun to watch, but maybe they do give the wrong message to young children. I'm still mulling it over, but I am very grateful that she asked us. It is quite a joy to see my children growing up and asking good questions.

That is a great question that she asked. I've never watched Veggie Tales (talked veggies just doesn't do it for me) so I can't comment, but it's need to see your kids thinking about things.

Sig,
Just a little FYI...It's not our Veggie Tales...we have never owned them and I think after we rented the Jonah video and followed the movie with the bible we decided they were probably not sending our kids the right message.

We watch a lot of Veggie Tales in our home, so this question made me wonder. I also love watching kids grow in their faith and question things, but in this case I will say that the message is about the message, not the messenger. If God's message is in it and only the the names are altered to engage young minds (and silly songs are added :) then I say "Nice try Satan"). God bless! Verlynn
