Omega continues to keep me humble. Yesterday we had dentist appointments for Soso and Omega. They love their dentist and have always done really well. Yesterday half way through her cleaning she decided she was done. She closed up the trap and would have nothing else to do with things in her mouth. I was in the waiting room with Nes. The hygienist came out, a very sweet young lady, and asked if I would come and sit in the room for the rest of the cleaning. She explained on the way back that Omega wouldn't open her mouth. I came in a tried to coax her into cooperating with the hygienist. Nothing. She started to take off her glasses and bib, so I explained that she had a little more to go. We cajoled, we offered treats, we stared helplessly, still nothing. Eventually the dentist, who is great with kids, sat down and talked to her until she let her guard down. He was able to see that her teeth were all there, and nothing major was amiss.
On the way out, the hygienist asked what she should have done. I told her I honestly had no idea. Some days are just like that. These children that I brought into the world baffle me. If they decide they are going to do, or not do something, no amount of reward or punishment on my end is going to change their behavior in that moment. These are the little kids, little problems, but I know that there will be the same issues when they are big. There will be days when they do things because they want to, and there is nothing I can do about it. That is where faith steps in. God has a plan for these little ones, that I only know a small part of. There is much, much more for which I only get to watch and pray. This is not to say, throw up your hands and say "it is God's plan." I have a responsibility to raise them with Godly instruction and obedience, and faith, but the results are of the Lord. They are His children first, and I am to be faithful to Him in how I raise them. Apparently I needed a lesson in humility yesterday afternoon far more than Omega needed her teeth cleaned.

Praise God for these lessons. I pray you'll have more influence as they get older.
