Happy Birthday K-man

Ten years ago today God introduced us to boydom. We had no idea what we had gotten into. After three girls we thought we had life pretty well in hand, but K-man was a curve ball. I thought he was a difficult toddler, but what I have discovered is that he was lacking in communication skills. He knew exactly what he wanted and how to get it, but couldn't tell me. He managed a few near death experiences before we gained the needed understanding. I am very thankful that God got him through those years.

He is now "uptight and outta sight." He is the family rules Nazi. Just tell him the rule and he is all over it. This is nice as a parent, but we will have to tone it down before he gets too much older. He got punched in kindergarten because he put some boy in line at recess, literally. I told him he had it coming. Life has a way of working these things out, and I pray for him daily.

He is convinced he is going to play baseball for the Seattle Mariners. I guess it is possible, but I am a realist so I try to explain his odds to him. He signed up for Cal Ripkin league last night. The first step to fulfilling the dream. All he wanted for his birthday was baseball cards and kit-kat bars. I love a man that is easy to please.

I made him lasagna and a white chocolate, raspberry cheesecake for his birthday dinner. Back in the old days it was chicken on the bone and macaroni and cheese. His tastes are improving, and he loves food. He even likes to watch the cooking channel. Maybe his fallback plan can be to be a chef. I could get excited about that. I love to cook for K-man, and he loves to compliment my cooking, one of the blessings of having a boy.

It's been an amazing 10 years. I am very thankful for this little man. If it wasn't for him, our home might just fall apart. If only I could live up to his expectations. My hope for him is that he continue to fight injustice, and strive to make the world a better place.
