Happy Valentine's Day

I'm not usually into sappy Hallmark holidays, but this year I am feeling festive. My sweet husband asked our children Thursday morning why we are celebrating Valentine's Day. K-man popped off with: "because St. Valentine was martyred for secretly marrying couples when the emperor had forbidden people to marry." Rick looked a bit startled and told the children they should each ask their teachers why they were celebrating today.

I chuckled knowing that Rick was really stalling since he had no idea who St. Valentine was, and K-man had a pretty good answer. Of course a little google search revealed that one possible St. Valentine was secretly marrying couples in defiance of the current ruler, which I think is pretty sweet. What a great day to honor marriages, and all of the glories that they bring. Rick and I have been married for 17 years and have 9 beautiful children to show for it. I think that deserves a chocolate.
