Free Time

All of my children are in school this year.  This means that I have from 8:30-11:30 am. Monday through Friday all to myself.  Several people asked me what I would do with all of my "free time."  Being a realist myself, I figured I would get the kitchen cleaned up from the post breakfast/lunch bonanza and maybe get ready for lunch before I had to pick up Nectarine and Jalapeno.  As it turns out I have had maybe, one or two mornings at home to clean the kitchen and get some laundry started, and the rest of the time I have been at school.

I remember years ago, one mom saying that they homeschool but everyone is at Logos.  I get that now.  I have been waiting for 10 years to help with PE and reading groups, field trips, and recess duty.  I volunteered for as many shifts as I could in the mornings.  It is a lot of fun to see the kids at school.  They are excited that I am there, and even give me hugs and kisses in public.  Well, BK doesn't but I didn't think she would.  I am getting to know some of the other kids at school.  I can pick out the kids by family, and I am working on individual names.  Yesterday we took the first graders out to run the mile.  This is their first time for the mile in elementary school.  They were awesome!  There are some really fast runners, just like their older siblings.  I was so proud of all of them, I was also glad I didn't have to run with them.  I ran that stretch of trail this morning while I was between activities.  It is tough to have one long stretch of road ahead of you for half a mile.  I didn't make it all the way, I walked.  Soso would have beat me big time.

These days are not at all what I thought they would be.  I thought I might be able to catch up on some neglected projects, or put in some heavy duty Bible study time.  I haven't worked that out yet, but it will come.  My house still needs to be scrubbed down from our wild summer, but it will always need that.  The kids are going to grow up and fly away before I know it.  I'm going to chase them as long as I can.  The dust bunnies are just going to have to hang around for another season.

I sometimes fantasize about just putting my kids on a bus and sending them off... but I think what you're doing is probably what I'd do, too. You're right - the house will always need cleaning (or fixing or updating or SOMETHING), but the kids are only this age now.

Good reminder for me. Thanks!

That's what I am talking about. That is exactly what I would do if I had that free time.. Except don't forget to read sometimes, because that is important:) Who cares about the house.
