Spring Break

Now that spring break is past, the house is quiet, and the gloomy weather continues, I can sit down and reflect on the disaster.  Madie had a great time in Hawaii, for which I am very thankful.  It was great to be able to see her pictures on facebook and know that she was enjoying a well deserved time away.

Back at the ranch, I was wallowing in discontent and worry.  The weather was cold, wet and gloomy.  The entertainment was lacking, and the attitudes went south in a hurry.  On Tuesday I was sure that I might not be able to drag myself, much less anyone else, out of bed so I had a planning session with Rick and made a run for the beach.  It was helpful for Martha to be able to spend a few days with her friends.  I had a few visits with my friends before we left, and I can say that they brought some rays of sunshine to a bleak week.  Other than that it was rainy and cold at the beach, too.  Since our break is so much earlier than everyone else, nothing in town was open.  I mean nothing!  We walked four miles to the donut shop for an activity, only to find it is only open on Saturday and Sunday.  When will I learn to call first?

Rick stayed home with the littles.  He did a lot of work around the house.  I love it when he is home and bored.  He took them bowling, for walks, made a birthday cake, and went for bike rides.  Honestly I'm not sure why he doesn't stay at home and let me get a job.  He is so much better at home than I am.

It wasn't  pretty, but we made it.  I have a good list of sin issues that I need to be working on.  I did read most of Rachel Jankovic's book Loving the Little Years.  It was awesome!  It was a great reminder of how thankful I am that all of my kids are potty trained.  It was also a great slap in the face with all of the little sins I have let flourish in front of my children.  Yes, I know where they get it.  The ridiculous thing is that sometimes I convince myself that no one else notices all of the ugliness I am displaying on a regular basis.  It is like finding out I have been walking around with my skirt tucked into my nylons all day.  Yikes!  It is a great little book, for anyone.  It is great for advice on how to survive the years of constant diaper changes.  It is great advice for those that are past the diapers and into the drama of the teenage years.  It is great for Mothers no matter what stage they are in.  It will make you thankful, and careful about how live before all of the eyes God has blessed you with in your home.

#122-127

School, the productive work that it gives my children.

Pets and the many lessons they teach all of us.

Birds, and the dances they perform in the sky.

Lengthening of daylight.

Hot water.

I loved that book, too. Awfully convicting, but sooo encouraging. Here's hoping your first back-to-school day goes smoothly!
