Mother's Day

We had a pretty laid back Mother's Day.  My Mother was in Westport watching the waves.  I called her and chatted for a bit in the afternoon.  Rick treated us to the Mother's Day brunch at our local hotel.  The kids thought they had died and gone to heaven.  All the ribs, bacon, crepes, and chocolate covered strawberries they could eat.  They made the most of it.  I was a little bit overwhelmed with the possibilities, so I had one reasonable sized plateful and called it a day.  I didn't want to feel terrible for the rest of the day.  (I have learned something since my college days.)

When I got home my two oldest girls rolled in bearing gifts.  Mads got me a Macy's gift card, which I will probably spend on her.  She went for a long walk with me, to assuage the guilt over the bacon and crepes.  We both got home and crashed, while Rick played baseball with the little people.  It was a rather chilly day, so a bike ride didn't sound fun at all.  Nes and Helen spent most of the day making cards for me and the grandmoms.  Their spelling is a lot of fun.  Hopefully it improves in the next twelve years, Brooke's hasn't really.

All in all it was a very nice day.  Nothing elaborate or overly showy.  I got some nice gift certificates, and chocolate, you can't go wrong there.  My children are delightful, flaws and all.  There are days when I wonder why God trusted me with so many people, but I am glad that He did.  We watched a family at brunch get their picture taken.  They were more in generations than us, and more in number.  It made me think about how glorious future Mother's Days will be.  We may end up with a pretty amazing crowd.  I will have to train up a couple of cooks, or we are going to go broke feeding us all.  God has been very good to us, and hopefully next year we can have a grandma here to celebrate with us.

I can relate to the cards with spelling errors... The one that I will be saving this year from Clara... "Happy Mother's Day! I hope you enjoy your buttfull flowers!" =) It made my day. Kim
