My 12 year old daughter wants to go with us to Ethiopia. She is number 2 in the line-up. She is the one that early on in this process said "I know that they don't have families, and I feel bad for them, but why do we have to adopt them?" She is the one that we told to be honest with our home study worker. We told her she did not have to say she was excited about it if she wasn't. Now she is the one trying to figure out how she can find an airline ticket to go with us. She is really genuinely interested in Ethiopia, and their people. God has really changed her heart.
She isn't my most adventurous child. She is pretty skeptical at first, but once she decides that something is okay, look out! She seems to be interested in travel, although the farthest she has been from home is Arizona, and she was only 3 at the time. Big families don't travel all that often. I am really torn.
She is a huge help, and I know she would be a help on the plane ride home. She is also really good with other children. I don't like to fly, so part of my hesitation is probably plain old fear. I hate to admit that, because I do believe that we have all been appointed a day to die, and nothing can take me, or her, until that day. The other problem is the cost factor. It is a hefty sum to take her, but the experience would truly be priceless. I need to continue to pray about it, and probably get her a passport. I would love to see how God might use this in her life to grow her world. My Dad had considered an exchange to Lesotho when I was in grade school. I was nervous about him taking it, but to this day I wish he had. I know it would have changed my life and made my world much bigger. There is just no substitute for real life experiences. I hope that we will go back to Ethiopia, maybe this will plant a seed for us.

Oh... I'll pray for you to be able to make a decision! :) It is so great to see what God has done in her little heart! Our oldest just turned 6, but she wasn't excited about the adoption at first either... When she saw them she said 'mommy! i loved them as soon as i saw them!' and truly, she has been AMAZING with them. God did a big work in her heart, too. So fun!
Thanks for following my blog! I'm following yours now, too! :)
I'd say take her. You will never regret it. The money we spent to send our now adut kids on short term missions trip was the very best investment we ever made in thier lives, same goes for the times we have brought other kids on adoption trips....best thing we ever did. Worth every penny, and I know how hard it is to come up with the funds. I plan to bring our 16 yr old Ethio daughter home 3 years, on trip to adopt baby abd toddler. Have no idea where $ will coe from but know it will show up in time
