Last Saturday while I was sweeping up Beasley Coliseum I happened to be a few rows below a young man that had all kinds of interesting philosophies on life. He kept telling the poor girl behind him all of the things she should consider about life.
I considered what he said, and I am praying that I will get the row behind him next time we clean. What he failed to consider with Christianity is that it is the only religion that is not about how we should live to have a better life. Christianity is based on a God that created the world out of nothing, and created us in His own image. He then gave up heaven and all of its glory to come to the world He created and live the life that He required. He was killed by the people that He came to save, and rose from the dead so that we can have eternal life. Christianity is about believing that God has done this for us in Jesus Christ. We don't have to "do" anything to earn heaven, we simply have to believe that He has done all of this for us.
This young man was caught up in the belief that Christianity is about obeying God's law. Christ fulfilled God's law, we never could. Christianity is about believing that Christ lived the life that we could not, and because He did we have an example to follow. When we fall short we are forgiven, and when we die, we live again. It is a preposterous plan, from any worldly perspective. But it is the truth. I am thankful that God gives us opportunities to tell our neighbors the crazy story of Jesus, and in the telling changing their lives forever.
