"While carrying our crosses and bearing our burdens in the contexts of our callings in his kingdom, our confidence in God's purposes for our lives will sustain us in hope and prevent us from adopting the "whatever" of nihilistic resignation. The last two lines of the final stanza of the Irish hymn "Be Thou My Vision" express this alternative perspective:
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my vision, O ruler of all."
