First Day of Summer

Here we are, the official first day of summer.  As you can see on the thermometer the warmth has yet to arrive.  For some reason I always sign my kids up for the first session of swimming lessons.  Mostly it is due to the fact that it runs into the fourth of July, and it is nice for the kids to be ready for the water when it finally does get warm.  I always reward them with a hot shower and hot chocolate when they get home.  Honestly they are warmer in the water than I am sitting on the side of the pool in the rain, which is what I tried to tell Jubilee.

She had told me that she loved to swim.  So I, foolishly, assumed she had had some swimming experience.  Nope.  I signed her up for lessons while she was out of town so I didn't have a chance to ask her how much swimming she had done.  When I told her we had lessons on Monday she was NOT happy.  I sat her down and explained why I thought swimming lessons were important and what she could expect.  After she had time to process it I think she was okay with it.  When we got to the pool I had not brought her suit.  I wanted her to have a chance to observe before canon balling in.  I had her stick her hand in the water to confirm that the water was actually warmer than the air.  She looked at me and asked, "did you bring my suit?"  I told her that I had not planned for her to get in, so we sat on the side shivering instead.  I think tomorrow she will be ready to hit the water.  It should be warmer by then, at least that is what they keep telling us.

Our boys from Uganda also said they loved swimming, and last summer while we were there swimming consisted of generalized hysteria. I'm not even sure they really knew what swimming was, we just assumed they did cuz hey! everybody swims when it's hot.

NOW, however, they are fish! Home 9 months, I bought them lifevests for the pool and they wore them for a week. I think once Jubliee hits the water and relaxes in it, it'll be no time and she'll be lovin' every minute.
