Laird Park
I have been whining for several years about the lack of fun places to hang out with the family during the summer. Growing up I lived near several lakes and rivers, where we practically lived all summer. In our little hometown we have, the pool. Don't get me wrong it is a very nice pool, but it lacks a certain adventure. Several friends have told us about Laird Park, so today I finally decided we should go check it out. It was a bit of a drive, not nearly as curvy and dusty as the drive to Boyer Park, but significant. I was not prepared with proper gear, ie. floaties, and we brought the dog. Ya, should have checked to see if doggies are welcome first, but that is the kind of planner that I am.
It did have a very nice, and child friendly beach area. It had a really cool dam thingy that made a great waterfall. The big girls and I hiked a few trails, that were great except for the swarm of mosquitoes that chased us to the swimming hole. Note to self, pack bug spray. The kids had a great time swimming, hiking, eating (of course), panning for gold with some friends that stopped in, walking the dog, in the approved for pooches areas, and taking cool photos from the dam. We have friends that live just a few minutes from the park and grew up in the area so they knew all the fun things to do, and brought floaties. They found a few flecks of gold and some garnets. K-man swam and jumped off the dam, yelling at us the entire time to watch him. I'm not sure the rest of the folks at the swimming hole appreciated us all that much, but we were entertaining. Nes said it was the best day of his life. Not bad for a Sunday afternoon.
