Finish Strong

Bk had to give it her all this weekend.  She ran against a young lady she has run against many times.  Most of the time they look like this picture.  Bk is still learning how to set her pace, and how much she needs to save for that final sprint to the finish.  Honestly I think she could have run this race a little faster, but she did just fine.  She ended up winning the race by a half step.  Her opponent thought the finish line was sooner than it was and started to slow up too soon.  This happened to Bk during a track meet last year, so I told her to run all the way through the shoot.  I kept yelling to finish strong as she was coming in the last 200 meters.  She did and it paid off.  I have so much respect for these girls and how hard they work at these races.  It is kind of fun to see the same kids week after week getting stronger and improving every season.  I hope that they become friends by the time they are finished being competitors.

Mads was in Silverwood this weekend.  She couldn't run for a time because she had violated a high school rule about running outside races during cross country season.  It was an oversight on my part, but we have learned our lesson.  She can't run next week either, but she will travel and cheer on her team mate who is doing awesome.  I think the kids are growing to love running, which is the real goal.
