The Happy Cooks
Madie and Bronwyn as ladies. Madie doing archery, she hit the target at least once.
Thursday night I had four girls baking in my kitchen, which was cozy. Friday was Karsten's birthday. He also had a lead in his class play. Martha's class was reciting Psalm 33 right before the play. This was all happening at 8:30. I had also told Karsten I would bring treats for his class. The older girls had until 10:00 to get ready for their feast. They were supposed to be dressing up as ladies of the court. It was one of those mornings when I was needed in at least three different locations. Not to mention that it was a frosty 6 degrees when we left our house. Dressing up for a feast really isn't meant to happen with snow pants and hats. Note to self, next year the girls get ready by 8:15 just like everybody else and get to school. And, I don't do hair styles beyond basic braiding.
We muddled through the morning, and managed to pull off a decent birthday for Karsten. I remembered to bring the treats during lunch. I finished his jumbo stuffed shells, and huckleberry cheesecake. Today he and three friends are in Spokane playing laser tag, which was our gift to him. Soren gave him several gifts, and encouraged him to share. It was pretty funny actually. Karsten seems to be much more interested in doing things with his friends, than racking up goods to keep in his "junk trunk." He did love the Apples to Apples game Grandpa got for him. He was born during the University of Idaho Jazz Festival, which is a crazy, busy time of year in Moscow. The hospital was so busy when I went to have him, that they put me in a regular room, the maternity ward was full. They sent me home without doing all of the regular things, which I didn't really mind, but it must have prepared him for the craziness that would surround his birthday from then on.
If it was up to me, I would still be in hibernation mode. Today I have been in the kitchen most of the day. I love to cook inside when the weather is frightful outside. I would drink lattes and read fat books. I am still hopeful that that season in life will happen in the future. Track practice started yesterday, and next weekend we are scheduled to hand out water at the Snake River Half marathon. I'm hoping we are least in double digit temperatures by then, otherwise we will be handing out ice cubes. I will keep all of my global warming comments to myself for now.
