The Home Stretch

This is the last full week of the school year for us.  As much as I am ready for it to end, I know the transition period will be rough.  May tends to be at least as busy as December around our house.  It is the end of track season.  The end of the school year, with all of the projects and papers and finals and field trips.  It is graduation season, even if we don't have graduates yet.  And wedding season begins right after graduation.  I need to remember not to schedule doctor's appointments, trips, or any other non-essentials in May.

Rick was in Washington D.C. this week.  My dear Mom came in to be the second commander at home.  She does a fabulous job of keeping us all fed and dressed.  We wear her out by the time she leaves.  This week was exceptionally challenging.  I had to take my PE class out to run the mile.  We had a couple of house showings, and offer, an acceptance, and another offer to be made.  We had the final Jr. High track meet, the high school track awards dessert, a wedding and an extra teenage son.  We made it!  I think the sunshine helped immensely.

I do love being able to help at school.  Walking around the pond with the kindergartners was delightful.  Watching my first graders run the mile, and finish well was very rewarding.   Even the track meet, that I had not planned to be at, but got to help with, was glorious.  We got a lot of sun this week which perked up the attitudes.  Brooke won her long jump after scratching her first three attempts.  Helen finished first of the first grade girls in the mile, even though she was running it just for fun.  Martha finished her mile, even though she was sure it would kill her.  It didn't and she is proud of herself after she gets through it.  Karsten had a medieval feast.  This morning Eden did her recitation and put her drama queen skills to good use.

All I can say is bring on summer vacation!
