Writing

I stumbled upon a little notebook in my van while I was picking up stray belongings.  It was one of my children's thankful journal.  I thumbed through it, smiling at the little moments they had captured in the last several months.  Towards the end there were a couple of little essays on why they acted in certain ways.  It was quite insightful.  I have stumbled upon this child's writing before, and found it very helpful.  I am beginning to wonder if I stumble upon it by design.

It made me very thankful that my children write.  They are able to put down their thoughts on paper, for themselves, and occasionally for me.  It gives me insight into their inner world.  These little peeks into their souls are helpful for us both.  Sometimes they can write things they can't say to me in person.  If I approach them with the subject it seems to be easier all around.

Some of my children have kept journals for years.  It is fun to sit down and peruse what they wrote when they were six or seven.  Sometimes I have to have them read it to me, it seems to be in some kind of foreign code.  They get a good laugh out of the things they bothered to write about.  I am really hoping they will find the time to sit down and add to this blog.  They have good things to say, and before we all know it they will be off on new adventures.

Writing takes time.  It takes quiet time to think.  We have had that in very short supply lately.  I find my writing gets really shallow when time is short.  Yes, my thoughts are shallow, I admit it.  I have a deep one now and then, but they seem to get lost in all the chatter.  There are seasons that are like that.  I need to take more writing in then I need to put it out.  I am thankful for writers, and their willingness to put their thoughts out there for us to read, and feed upon.
