The Remnant

I have been studying the book of Isaiah with a group of ladies for the past month or so. It is such a rich book, we could probably study it for the rest of our lives, but we plug along at a chapter or two a week. One thing that has come up over and over is that God always keeps a faithful remnant.

The first five chapters of Isaiah are pretty dire. God is letting His people know that His long suffering with them is about to end. He is ready to send them into exile and to destroy the land. But through it all there is hope for the righteous. He promises to be faithful to those who believe that He is God, and that His Word is true.

When the going gets tough is when we find out what we really believe. Do we trust God? Do we believe that He can protect orphans in Africa? Do we believe that He will feed us and let us keep our homes? Do we believe that He will save us, if it looks like our government can't? It is times that are tough that reveal who the believers are, and what they believe in.

It is a good thing ponder what my faith is in. As I wait for N, I need to be calm and believe that God has called me to him and he is faithful to bring him home. He is faithful to feed all of my rowdy home and give me enough time to make sure everybody gets their homework done. He is a God of miracles and my demeanor reveals how truly I believe this.
