I forgot to mention in my post on things I do as a large family, that I have a planner that is my life. If I don't write things down, they don't exist. That is part of the reason that I blog. If I don't put down some record of what I have done with my life, I will never remember.
My planner has fluctuated over the years, but my current planner is the Franklin Covey weekly planner with monthly pages, and address pages. I keep track of what I'm planning for dinner. What lessons the kids have. Who we are eating with. I write everything down in my planner. If it isn't written in there I will forget it. It keeps me from leaving my kids waiting for me, or from forgetting to make dinner for people. I know other Moms of large families also live by their planners. I even write down what Doctors told me, what shots the kids got, comments that were made that I need to remember. I keep them after each year so that I have a record of what we did during the year. I am planning to give my children the planner from the year they were born instead of a baby book. I think I only wrote in the first three baby books for a few months. At least then they might understand why I didn't keep up with the baby book.
My daughters also have planners that they use for school. It has been a great help to them, and I am glad to see them developing the discipline of keep a record of their lives. My family would be much more chaotic without my planner.
