Boy of Summer

We officially started the baseball season last night with a win. It is parks and rec league so of course there was no "official" score, but all of the kids knew it was 12 to 26. I love the little leagues, they are always so much more entertaining than the majors. Lots of errors, lots of coaches yelling conflicting instructions to children trying to run, watch the ball, and remember where the play is all at the same time, and a few players laying down in the outfield.

K-man, of course, took it very seriously. He and the second basemen were the unofficial coaches, except for the play when they both ran to the ball that was right between first and second, and simultaneously decided to let the other guy get it and ran back to their bases, leaving the ball sitting on the ground while the runners made it safely to the bases. They were both really annoyed. They learned a lot and everyone was a good sport.
They had so much fun they decided to play an extra inning for fun. By that time my cheering section was losing its cheer, so we headed for the playground. We ate dinner around 7:30, which is late for us. It will be fun to see the guys learn to play as a team, and the crowd learn to coach from the side lines. These are the great blessings of parenting. Seeing your kids learn to play, have fun, and love their neighbors in the real world. We also got to play against our next door neighbor, so she got a bonus cheering section.

Mads gets to drive for the first time on actual streets tomorrow. That is the warning to all of you out on the streets, beware of the driver's ed car.
