Sorry to leave any of you hanging, like my dad. Good news, current birth certificate will be fine. Travel date stays the same. Still making flight arrangements. Big huge Thank You to Heather and Arlyn.
One of the little oddities about adopting internationally is that ages are often estimates. It seems easy enough to estimate someone's age, but it really is a little more complicated. For one thing Ethiopia is on a different calendar than we are, so sometimes there are conversion discrepancies. Sometimes relatives that bring the children into care want the child to seem younger, so that the agency will take the child. There are many reasons. In our case we are thinking Jubilee is 10 or 11, and several people that have met her agree. For some reason that we will probably find out while we are in Ethiopia, her paperwork from there says that she is 8. It seems very odd from an American viewpoint, but it is very common. We will wait until she gets home and decide how we want to proceed with her age when we re-adopt her here.
I am just happy that we can go ahead as planned and meet her in three weeks. Honeybee is headed off on another trip for Christmas, before she heads out with us. I am trying to think of creative entertainment that is airline friendly for the flights and layovers, if you have brilliant ides please leave a comment. I also found a lovely pink backpack carry-on on clearance at Macy's, yay!
